Role Description/Criteria
St Mary’s School in Geelong is seeking a highly skilled, motivated and passionate educator to fulfil the role of Deputy Principal – Learning & Teaching. The Deputy Principal role is a two-year fixed term position. The successful applicant will have an ongoing teaching role at St Mary’s School. Whilst this appointment has an initial leadership position of Learning & Teaching, all positions of leadership at St Mary's School will be vacated and available for 2026-2027.
Due to the timing of this appointment, the successful candidate's start date is to be negotiated with relevant stakeholders.Â

The successful applicant will be:
- a calm and collaborative school leader who has the capacity to nurture the strong community bond between staff, students and families
- knowledgeable, aligned and experienced in implementing the ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Vision for Instruction Position Statement
- able to deliver and support aligned, high quality, evidence-informed learning and teaching practices from Foundation to Year 6
- an approachable, visible and collaborative leader who demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of staff, students and their families
- a leader who is aspiring to principalship, seeking to be mentored by the current principal and willing to undertake professional learning to prepare for principalship
The successful applicant will have:
- evidence of leading and modelling instructional leadership through exemplary curriculum knowledge
- an ability to build the capacity and cultivate the performance of individuals and teams
- a deep understanding and passion for improving student outcomes
- strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain partnerships and enhance the welcoming atmosphere of the school and parish
- exceptional organisation and experience to support leading and managing the school
- leadership skills and experience to the capacity to build strong links and maintain trust and credibility with the wider school community
- communication and interpersonal skills with the aptitude to build and nurture relationships and engage staff, students and their families
- have the ability to foster a culture of respect, collaboration, and high expectations across the schoolÂ
- support the Principal with behaviour management and student engagement strategies
- have the capacity to act as Principal during their absence, ensuring the smooth management of school operations
- the ability to deliver professional learning, build staff capacity and assist in conflict resolution
Special Requirements
- a strong commitment to Catholic education and the ethos of Catholic schools
- accreditation to teach Religious Education
- full registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching
- the appropriate qualifications including a Master’s Degree
