Construction to start on new Torquay school
21 April 2017
With construction about to begin, Bishop Mark Edwards has blessed the building site for the new Lisieux Catholic primary school in Torquay that will open in
2018.
At the ceremony Bishop Edwards thanked all the workers who would be involved in building the new school on behalf of the young people of Torquay and wished them well for a safe and speedy build.
‘That the community requires a fantastic new school like this is a great show of confidence of what our educators are doing in Catholic education for the young people in their care and a deep desire to provide for the Catholic education of the local children,’ Bishop Edwards said.
Builder WP Contractors have been selected to construct the new Lisieux Catholic Primary School in Torquay. The new school is a project jointly funded by the Victorian Government and the Catholic Parish of Grovedale, Torquay and Anglesea. Construction is set to begin in the next few weeks.
Parish Priest, Father Linh Tran, said the new school would work in partnership with the existing school, St Therese School, to meet demand for Catholic education on the Surf Coast. ‘By providing state of the art facilities, we look forward to supporting our students to develop their education based on the joy of learning, and the inherent goodness of the human person,’ Father Linh said.
Catholic Education 吃瓜不打烊 Executive Director, Stephen Elder, said WP Contractors have built dozens of Catholic schools as well as government schools in the past. ‘We’re excited to work with a builder that we know can deliver first-class school infrastructure to support the first-class teaching and learning that will be delivered at Lisieux,’ said Mr Elder.
The team will be working hard to build an inviting school environment ready for the 2018 school year. Stage one will include construction of seven general learning areas, a multi-purpose hall, staff and student amenities and administration facilities.
Enrolment enquiries for the new school are currently being received via St Therese School on 5261 4246 and architectural images can be viewed on the school website: .
