For the first time in , Toorak, VCE history there were three perfect 99.95 ATARS – attained by Patrick Gigacz, Albert Shen and David Wang. College Principal, Stephen Russell said, ‘As is the case, when Year 12 cohorts achieve so well, the class of 2017 showed us how working together counts for so much: each of the boys saw their studies as important and as a way of opening doors to their future lives beyond the school gates. To complete the VCE with 240 friends and peers gives each individual student such a sense of camaraderie, of collegiality and of shared commitment.’

, Bundoora, student Callum Holmes also achieved a perfect ATAR score, as did Isabelle Zupan, dux of , Kew. Isabelle is among eight girls to get the top ATAR and her results included three perfect scores in Chemistry, Mathematical Methods and English. Genazzano College Principal, Karen Jebb said, ‘The harmonious partnership between students, parents and teachers at Genazzano is highly evident. I acknowledge the guidance, commitment and dedication of not only the Year 12 teachers, but of those who have taught the students throughout their educational journey at the College.’

Minister for Education, James Merlino said, ‘Completing VCE requires determination and hard work and I congratulate all students on this occasion’ but also reminds students, ‘Your ATAR is not the be all and end all – there are many pathways to success and to get to where you wish to go in life.’
