Students from , Chelsea, have been entering South East Water’s Poster competition for the last 10 years.

School Principal, Gavan O’Donnell, explains why the school began entering the competition, ‘We started entering during the drought years as we felt it was important to educate the children about using water wisely and we knew that they would take the message home to their families.

This year’s competition theme was Water the Heart of our Culture, which attracted 168 poster entries from 11 local primary schools.

Mr O’Donnell said, ‘We enter the competition every year so as to raise the awareness of the importance of water in our lives. Nearly every student in the school participates in the competition and puts in an entry. South East Water has in the past, provided staff and students with some of the best professional development sessions and incursions that we have experienced.’

This year St Joseph’s students placed first, second and third in several categories, including State Winners of first place in Prep, Cormac, and second place in the Grade 3 & 4 category, Eden, winning prizes and gift cards.

Cormac thinks, ‘We need water so animals can swim’, and Eden said, ‘When I thought about different cultures, I thought that we should all share our water and be equal’.

National Water Week was 15–21 October 2017.
