Two female chief justices

Anne Ferguson, the next Chief Justice of Victoria, will be sworn in officially early this month. Justice Ferguson was educated at the Brigidine Sisters’ in Springvale where she was academic Dux.
When Anne Ferguson began practicing law in 1984, not one woman was serving on the bench of the Supreme Court. Now, the former commercial solicitor and Appeal Court Justice will be the state’s next chief justice. Justice Ferguson will be Victoria's 12th chief justice and the first solicitor to hold the position.
Justice Ferguson will be the second female Chief Justice, replacing Marilyn Warren AC who announced earlier this year that she would step down in September.
Chief Justice Warren was also educated by the Brigidine Sisters’ at in Mentone and made history as the first woman in Australia to be appointed as Chief Justice in 2003.
Chief Justice Warren was one of the 2017 Past Pupils of Distinction Inductees at Kilbreda College who were honoured at a celebratory function at the College on 4 August 2017.
Chief Justice Warren has extended her warmest congratulations to Justice Ferguson.
