Winning designs support Homelessness Week

By Tate Papworth;
Two students have created winning designs in a statewide T-shirt competition to support Homelessness Week.
Concern Australia’s STEPS Outreach Service asked students to come up with creative and imaginative designs, with sales of T-shirts to help raise funds to end youth homelessness.
Catholic Regional College student Julie created the winning design with a space theme.
‘Sometimes it can feel like you’re drifting into space and so I’ve put a yellow balloon in my design to convey happiness and hope,’ Julie said.
‘It only took me about a week to come up with my design, but I’m really happy with how it all came together and thrilled that we won.’
Fellow student Delvana created a design that placed third.
‘I really wanted to have fun with my design and create something that looked cool to wear,’ Delvana said.
‘I drew my design by hand and am really happy with what I was able to create.’
Concern Australia communication and relationship manager Jo Thitchener said the students were part of a competitive field.
‘We had about 60 entries from across the state,’ she said.
‘We had a judging panel select the winners based on the design, interpretation and what worked best on a T-shirt.’
‘In the past, we’ve done photographic exhibitions, but this year we decided to do something different.’
The winning designs have been exhibited at the Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre in Carlton.
The winning designs will be printed on to T-shirts and canvas bags.
