Acting with kindness
11 February 2019
Students from , Strathmore, gave up part of their summer holidays to make a difference to disadvantaged people around the world.
Outdated uniforms were donated by families at the school and the parish outreach group organised for over 300 sports polo tops to be delivered to the Donations in Kind warehouse in West Footscray.
The students met with David and Laurie to hear more about the Donations in Kind program, which is supported by Rotary Clubs in Australia and grew out of the compassion and concern of returning overseas volunteers. This recycling and reuse program involves the collection, sorting, packing, dispatch and distribution of donated items to countries in need of these goods.
The sports tops will be shipped to children attending schools in East Timor, South Sudan, Somalia, Ghana, Chile or Nepal. The St Vincent de Paul students learned important lessons about charity, voluntary work, humanity and gratitude.
