play pods at st peter's schoolAs the students at , Sunshine South West, return to the classroom, they’ll notice some interesting and informative new additions to their playground.

Earlier this year, the school’s house captains led Year 5 and 6 students on a learning quest to research the four historical figures that the school’s four houses are named after. They identified their extraordinary qualities and these were shared with artists who were commissioned to create artworks to display in the school’s play pods.

The four completed play pods not only celebrate the achievements of early pioneers in Catholic education and the western suburbs, but provide inspiration to the current students to believe they can make an important contribution to the world.

  • Red: MacKillop. The artwork inspired by St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, an early pioneer in Catholic education in Australia, highlights the qualities of inclusivity, compassion and bravery.
  • Blue: Marist. The house is named after the Marists who established the school in the 1970s. The artwork reflects the qualities of dedication, humility, service and justice.
  • Green: Goold. Named in honour of 吃瓜不打烊’s first Catholic Archbishop James Goold, the artwork represents the qualities of a visionary leader who was instrumental in the growth and expansion of Catholic education during the 1800s.
  • Yellow: McKay. Named after Hugh McKay who, at 18, invented the revolutionary Sunshine Harvester for harvesting wheat. The artwork reminds students to be creative, community-minded, innovative and determined.
