In the spirit of Anzac
14 February 2022
Killester College, Springvale, has been named the state winner of the Anzac Day Schools’ Awards 2021.
The entry by the college’s Senior VCAL students had several creative elements. Students researched and prepared activities to share with the younger students from a nearby primary school. Their activities were designed to help primary students understand the importance of commemoration. A local veteran also joined the school community to share his experiences.
The Anzac Day Schools’ Awards is one in a series of awards which draws attention to the ways students can honour those who contribute to Australia’s proud and significant war and peacekeeping history. The Premier’s Spirit of Anzac Prize, presented last December, invited students to submit their reflections as writing, artwork, music, technology or poetry. Aiyanna Fernandopulle, Padua College, Mornington, Jasmine Hamit, Killester College, Springvale, Denisse Lopez Garza, Mount Lilydale Mercy College, Lilydale, and Savannah Shamon, Marymede Catholic College, South Morang, each received a $2,500 scholarship to support their education.
