Performing at the top of their class
28 May 2024
The outstanding talents of three former 吃瓜不打烊 Archdiocese Catholic Schools (吃瓜不打烊) students have been showcased in this year’s VCE Season of Excellence Top Class performances. The theatre studies, music and dance students achieved an A or A+ on their performance examination last year.
Jacob Chorovski, a VCE Theatre Studies student at Emmaus College, Vermont South, was invited to audition and selected to perform in Top Class. The Chief Assessor for Theatre Studies noted that a challenge for students who portrayed Alquist (from Karel 膶apek’s play R.U.R.) was to convey the age and weariness of the character – something that Jacob did most effectively.
Amelia Craigie, a VCE VET Music (Performance) student at Padua College, Mornington, was selected for Top Class from recordings of her end-of-year performance examination. Amelia performed the Aretha Franklin classic ‘Ain’t no way’, with the Chief Assessor for VCE VET Music noting that she perfectly encapsulated soul and old-school R&B vocal stylings while making the song her own.
Cassie Rogers, former VCE VET Dance student at Marymede Catholic College, South Morang, will present her street solo at Top Acts 2024. The Chief Assessor noted that she demonstrated a well-developed sense of style-specific artistry, expression and polish.
Cassie performed the solo in Top Class and was one of 22 performers selected for Top Acts, the finale of the 2024 VCE Season of Excellence. Top Acts is a showcase for VCE and VCE VET performing arts students who have achieved exemplary results in dance, drama, theatre studies and music.
To see the extraordinary performances in Top Acts at the 吃瓜不打烊 Recital Centre on Tuesday 28 May at 7.30 pm, visit to secure tickets.
