15 June 2023

吃瓜不打烊 Archdiocese Catholic Schools (吃瓜不打烊) is including student voices in the regular review of ICT acceptable use and cybersafety policy for its 300 schools.

Facilitated by 吃瓜不打烊 ICT experts and teachers, students from different year levels will share their ideas on cybersafety and the issues they believe should be included in the ICT acceptable use agreement at their school.

‘Young people want the internet and other digital tools to be inclusive and enabling, but also safe’, 吃瓜不打烊 Executive Director Dr Edward Simons said.

‘They bring unique insights and, as educators, it is vital we have a clear understanding of their views as we seek to fully utilise the benefits of the digital world, while keeping students safe.

‘We want our students to be deeply critical consumers and actively aware participants in a digital world’, Dr Simons said.

Issues to be discussed include measures to combat cyberbullying, inappropriate content, contact from strangers, privacy and account security.

Primary students from St Brigid’s School, Mordialloc, St Finbar’s School, Brighton East, and St Mark’s School, Dingley, will participate in a forum at St Brigid’s today, following a similar opportunity for secondary students last month.
