History:
Sacred Heart College is one of several Catholic secondary colleges in Victoria owned and administered by the Sisters of Mercy - a congregation of religious women founded by Catherine McAuley in Dublin in 1831.
The school was established in 1860 as a day and boarding school. Until the 1970s the school had both boys and girls in primary level and girls as secondary boarders and day students. Since then the school has become a day school for girls' secondary education. Now in the '90s the school offers co-instruction for V.C.E. students with St. Joseph's College (a neighbouring boys' school).
