History:
St Anthony’s School was established by the Josephite Sisters in 1917. The school celebrated 100 years of education in 2017 and continues in the charism of Mary MacKillop.
Description:
St Anthony’s is a Catholic school situated in the inner northern suburb of Alphington with a current enrolment of 260 students. The schools boasts 21 learning environments, including 12 classes, art room, vegie garden and a multitude of play/sport facilities.
Students are provided with a rich curriculum with particular emphasis on faith development, wellbeing and religious education. Literacy and Numeracy are key components of the curriculum with the focus on developing students’ skills and knowledge.
The school offers students counselling services, speech pathology support, extra curricular lunchtime programs and extensive sporting opportunities, including swimming, running and athletics clubs.
Features:
Digital Learning is an important area supporting the curriculum, with each classroom having on average a ratio of 1:2 multimedia devices. All students have access to a bank of laptops or iPads for each level which provides 1:1 access to digital based activities and programs in the senior school. There are interactive whiteboards in each classroom.
St Anthony’s has an ICT technician who supports the teachers with teaching and learning.
Intervention/Extension programs and Reading Recovery are offered for students with specific needs. Inquiry Learning, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Italian add to the diversity of the school curriculum.
Students participate in weekly sessions to develop fundamental motor skills for application to team sport participation in senior years. Students in Years 5 and 6 participate in an extensive inter-school sports program with the Ivanhoe District School Sports Association.
