History:

St Peter Chanel School, the first Catholic primary school in Deer Park, was constructed under the direction of Fr Glover. The building was made of wood: it was very basic and plain but functional. It opened in January 1955 with 100 children. The school was staffed by Marist Sisters, who lived through and overcame many difficulties, teaching at the school until the end of 1972. In late January 1973 the running of the school was entrusted to Catholic lay teachers. In the past 23 years the people of Deer Park with the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr K. Borg, have succeeded in building a school with up-to-date facilities.

Description:

St Peter Chanel School is in Deer Park, situated 20km from the CBD, along the Western Highway on the outskirts of ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ. There are 600 pupils in 21 grades. Three grades at each level, from Prep to Year 6. The school is divided into separate one-storey blocks: four classroom blocks, library multimedia centre and administration building. Students have access for gym and other activities in a large and up-to-date hall. The parish church has recently been refurbished and is in the same grounds.

Features:

St Peter Chanel School has a state-of-the-art library multimedia centre, equipped to enable students access to the resources necessary to enhance learning information skills. The centre has computers, video and audio facilities.
